Greetings from Park City!
Sundance is alive and well even if it's leaving
Hello from Sundance, where it is currently very very cold and there is very little snow. As we were driving in from the airport we were asking our driver how people are feeling about Sundance leaving Park City and he described how Utah locals are feeling about it, which is what I think most people are going to end up feeling. “I bet it will seem nice that it’s leaving, but as soon as it’s gone people are going to miss it.” Yes, it’s a crowd and a pain and it’s hard to get here and it’s too much for Park City’s infrastructure to handle, but once it’s gone…
It’s the end of an era, certainly, and I’m not such a Sundance Pro (this is only the second time I’m at the festival) that I feel qualified to write an “it’s the end of Sundance as we know it” piece. I’m not even qualified to write a “this is what Sundance means to me” piece, because… frankly, this is the first time I’m here with a film I worked on.
All I know is there are not just one, but TWO(!) Chase Sapphire lounges, and for that, I am thankful.
Which, by the way, as though I haven’t pounded this home enough on the newsletter or social media, is exactly why I’m here. I wrote this film, In the Blink of an Eye, which was on the The Black List back in 2016, found its way to director / genius / Academy Award Winner Andrew Stanton, and is premiering here Monday evening.
Andrew did a nice little interview for the festival about the movie and what it means to him.
It’s a very strange feeling, having a movie come out, especially one that’s been with you for a long time. I’m excited for a packed crowd at the festival to get to watch it together on the big screen at high altitude, and even more excited for it to eventually be out in the world (on Hulu February 27th) so that everyone can see it.
I’ll be running around the festival starting this morning, so if you see me and are a Hollyweirdo please say hey! And if you happen to be here and happen to be a film financier I’m also taking meetings. :)
My schedule is very full but there’s always time for one more.
Oh also, Apple TV just released a teaser for the upcoming season of For All Mankind, which I was a writer on. Busy spring.
They also released a batch of promotional photos here, but for some reason Apple and Sony REFUSE to include this picture.

Hi Colby, I have a question. According to IMDB, you're listed as a screenwriter on episode 6 of season 5. I wanted to ask if you actually wrote "only" the fifth episode or if TV series credits work differently and you worked on all of them.
