Your instincts are correct, for most series writers are on staff and in the room discussing the shape of the entire season and contributing to all episodes, and then assigned a specific episode (or episodes) that they will write. So when S5 airs you’ll see my name in the main credits for all episodes, but just one “written by” credit.
