Thanks for writing this! It spelled out some thoughts that were already kind of half-formed in my mind... But then any time I find myself resisting the pitch deck, I wonder if I'm "not doing the necessary work." Especially agree with "Pitch decks are limiting" - if it's a good pitch - and the right fit - everyone should be dreaming together!

When discussing pitch decks, it seems like you are talking about the kinds the producer/buyer would be looking at on their own, before and after the pitch. What about the "visual presentation" to go along with the oral pitch on Zoom? That seems to be standard practice these days.

If you’re bringing a pitch to a buyer/studio and there isn’t a script I would say yes having some visual materials that you can cycle through during the pitch would be good. But I would not spend the time and energy on the visual materials while meeting producers if they do not have the ability or willingness to pay for material. In an ideal world they should want to do that with you! Just my opinion!
